Revenge Of The Transforming Cheerleader In Jennifer’s Body

Filed In: , , , , ,

How if two of the hottest women in Hollywood today are pairing to work in one frame together? They are Diablo Cody, an ex stripper who’s turn into an Academy Award winner for her original screenplay of “Juno” and Megan Fox, an ex model who went on to have a bright film career after appeared in a breakout role of Mikaela Banes, Shia LaBeouf's character's love interest in the 2007 blockbuster film “Transformers” and the 2009 sequel “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.” The movie project which assures their first collaboration is “Jennifer’s Body,” a horror-drama about a teenage cannibal which Cody wrote during the filming, and promotion, of “Juno.” This film is also giving Fox her first lead role in a movie where she will play the title character Jennifer Dorman, a mean-girl cheerleader possessed by a demon who begins feeding off the boys in a Minnesota farming town. This absolutely a quite unusual genre for both of them and an extremely different movie than “Juno,” but honestly, I’m not sure whether the sudden genre shift to camp horror is a good thing or not for a Diablo Cody. But for Fox, “Body” is surely her first true starring bid without the benefit of ILM's best work to bring in the crowds. Her allure, or lack thereof, will be put to the box office test on the time “Body” is release to the market. In the other hand, the film which described as similar in tone to “Heathers” was directed by Karyn Kusama, whose début production "Girlfight” won both the Director's Award and the Grand Jury Prize at the 2000 Sundance Film Festival, but second film “Æon Flux” unfortunately considered a financial failure and got a very negative review from critics. Some other cast who supported Fox in this film were including Amanda Seyfried (Mamma Mia!), Adam Brody (The OC), J.K. Simmons (Spider-Man trilogy), Johnny Simmons (The Spirit, Hotel for Dogs) and Kyle Gallner (The Haunting in Connecticut).

The film follows Jennifer (Fox), a gorgeous mean-girl cheerleader who possessed by a demon after improperly sacrificed by a local band, who is trying to obtain a record deal. But they pick the wrong girl and she comes back literally looking for blood. Jennifer begins feeding off the boys in a sleepy Minnesota farming town who lust after her. It is then up to her "plain Jane" best friend Needy (Seyfried) to kill Jennifer, escape from a correctional facility and go after lead singer Nikolai (Brody) and his Satan-worshiping rock band responsible for the transformation.

# In February 2008, a cease and desist was given to a writer at CC2K.com after they posted an advanced script review for the film. The Latino Review also posted an advanced review. At the time CC2K.com received their cease and desist order, questions were raised why Latino Review's largely positive script review was allowed to stay posted while CC2K was being forced by Fox Searchlight to remove their mainly negative coverage. Although Latino Review was later asked to remove their review, numerous other websites and blogs have published their own critiques of the script.

# Some of the scenes, particularly those situated in a school setting, were filmed in Vancouver Technical Secondary School, Langley Secondary School and University Hill Secondary School.

# The filmmakers considered actual rock stars like Peter Wentz of Fall Out Boy and Joel Madden of Good Charlotte for the role of musician Nikolai, but the role eventually went to Adam Brody. Also considered was actor Chad Michael Murray and Johnny Simmons, but Simmons then was given the role of Chip.

# The title is inspired from the song "Jennifer's Body" by Courtney Love's band Hole.

# There was a rumor that to help sell “Jennifer’s Body”, star Megan Fox would be showing off a little bit more of her body. A picture from the set also has leaked and shows Fox in the water, topless, wearing only pasties but, for all intents and purposes, topless. But after a month and a half after it appeared online, image was removed by threat of lawsuit. An early screening for the film also had the nude scene cut out.

# The newest update for “Jennifer’s Body” is the MPAA had reviewed the film and gave it an R rating for "sexuality, bloody violence, language and brief drug use." Probably the studio may want to use Fox's nude scene to get people into the theaters, especially since early reviews have been negative. So, might be they had put the scene back into the theatrical version.

I'm all for looking at Megan Fox, I suppose, but can't they find someone who can act? There are plenty of beautiful women out there who can play such a role who actually have acting ability. Megan's monotonous, cue-card-reading acting style is apparent in the trailer alone. I can't imagine sitting through an entire film, although maybe I can wear earmuffs and just watch.

Looks pretty cool but they lost me at Adam Brody. The guy that takes weak ass roles like In the Land of Women and the O.C. Can't take him or anybody from the O.C. seriously. I'll probably stomach it just to see some more of Megan Fox getting down and dirty.
